Rope Lighting

Rope Light must be cut at specific lengths for it to function properly. If you cut rope light at the incorrect length then either the entire piece or a portion thereof will not light up. The cut lengths for various rope light differs. It can be 2ft, 3ft, 4ft or even 6ft. LED rope light and incandescent rope light tend to have different cut lengths and then for both types both 2 wire and 3 wire have varying cut lengths. It would be nice to be able to say that there is an absolute standard for cut lengths from manufacturer to manufacturer but there isn't.



The question is how can you tell what the cut length of a particular rope light is? Quite commonly there are cut marks printed on the rope light. The cut marks are generally dashed lines printed on the rope light. See the picture below:

If there are no cut marks on the rope light then look for the jumpers and cut between them.
